Over the past few seasons it has been noticeable that a lot of the tuna have been feeding on smaller bait species and it can often be tricky tempt a bite when in that sort of mood. Without a doubt trolling bars can divert their attention but the more traditional stingers of 11" or above can be ignored.
Well we are always looking for new and innovative ways to tempt that bite and the Islamorada Flyers, created and designed by Florida Captain Galon Johnson, have a proven record for catching various blue water species when feeding on smaller prey species.
Rigging these Flyers is very simple and Captain Johnsons recommendations are as follows
6.5" Flyer - Select a suitable 8/0 Southern Tuna style J hook, single 18mm crimp to suit your trace, one or two small beads and a 0.5oz olive lead. Construct so the lead lays within the head and the hook laying towards the end of the skirt.
9" XL Flyer - 8/0 or 9/0 Southern Tuna hook, suitable single 18mm crimp, two to three beads and a 0.5 - 0.75oz olive lead. Construct so the lead lays within the head and the hook laying towards the end of the skirt.
